  • In an article published in the Weekend Australian, 1-2 July 2006, Baranay writes about the influence of Somerset Maugham's The Razor's Edge on this novel. She says that she uses 'exactly [Maugham's] structure and his constellation of characters, only they live 60 years later and are Australians rather than Americans in Europe.'
