George Morris, a wealthy sheep station owner, tells Lizzie, his young, poor, and pregnant girlfriend, that he is going to marry a rich woman. His cruelty has disastrous results.
Three men, Borlick, Tadd and Underby, are killing turtles for tortiseshell. Their strained relationships are manipulated by Tadd with murderous results.
Ephrian Jones loves funerals and scotch. When he almost misses the biggest funeral the town has ever had, his drinking combines with a lost friendship to bring about a macabre incident.

A tramp, Dick, is cared for by a doctor and his wife. He is grateful and promises to keep a lookout for their son Alec who, after a quarrel with his father, had left home. Three years later he finds Alec who who is under threat of imprisonment.
Meston tells of how two young women, Nooneonya and Wiannmal, fell in love with Calboonya at a corrobbee. Calboonya asked for and received permission to marry Nooneonya but then ran off with Wiannmai. The desire for retribution led to private battles and then a tribal war.

A history of Jean Francois de Galaup, Count La Perouse, and his longest expedition, which left from Brest on 1st August 1785. After some hardship La Perouse arrived in Botany Bay. He left New South Wales on 7th February 1788 after sending a message to Captain Phillip saying he would go to Isle of France via the Gulf of Carpentaria and Van Diemen's land, but he never arrived.

A young wife decides to make a Christmas dinner just like they would have had 'back home' in Ireland. The people of the new little Australian town join in to help her and, although nothing goes quite to plan, her husband and baby enjoy the day.
