  • Author's note: It is an old bush 'gag' to refer to a celebrity as 'the man that caught the cod'. 'What cod?' queries the new chum. 'Why, the cod of the Condamine!' is the answer. And then all hands in the shed or the bar-room, as the case may be, cry - 'Give us the song, Joe ; throw it off your chest, mate.' To which Joe may be supposed to respond as under:
