BiographyHistory

Frank Daly was born at Rossmore, in Ireland, and was educated at Fermoy College and then Trinity College, Dublin. He migrated to New Zealand in ca. 1870, where he was involved in business ventures and worked as a journalist. He moved to Brisbane in 1888 to take up a position as a columnist on the Boomerang, and following its demise, he briefly found employment in the Queensland civil service. By the mid 1890s he was again working as a journalist, this time with the Brisbane Courier and the Queenslander, where his witty and often satirical columns appeared under the name 'Fidelio'. He was later also a writer and columnist for Steele Rudd's Magazine.

Notes

  • Note that a 'F. D.' also contributed poems to the Bulletin in the 1880s. To date it is unclear whether that author might also have been Daly.
