Notes

  • Author's note: Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael, both eighteen years old, were the only survivors of the 54 passengers and crew of the 'Loch Ard,' an iron-hulled clipper, when the ship struck the island since named Mutton-Bird Island not far from Port Campbell on Victoria's west coast and sank in some 25 metres of water during the small hours of the night of 1 June, 1878.
