Notes

  • From The Turning Wave, p. 300 - This song tells of the defeat of Sandy Ross, an Orangeman, by Larry Foley, a Sydney Catholic who was later acknowledged as the greatest Australian prize-fighter of his time. The fight took place at the Georges River near Sydney, on March 28th, 1871.
  • When sung, the tune is from the Irish rebel song, The Wearing of the Green.
