Light romance set in Switzerland, New York and Stockingham, England. An American/English traveller and a British army captain's daughter meet in Switzerland and silently declare their love with an edelweiss. Her father separates them by falsely telling the suitor his daughter is already engaged. They are eventually revisited through a lace design of edelweiss she makes when forced to earn a living in England through her father's poverty and illness. (PB)
