Notes

  • This poem, by the colonial poet John Hurrey, is included in David Goodman's article 'The Politics of Horticulture', Meanjin, 47.3 (Spring 1988): 403-412. Goodman describes Hurrey as the 'plangent poet' of the emotions aroused in early settlers by their gardens - 'a locus of transplantation, and a site of regret' (p.403).
