The Dromkeen Collection (also known as the Courtney Oldmeadow Children's Literature Foundation) was established at Dromkeen Homestead, near Melbourne, by Court and Joyce Oldmeadow (q.v.). The collection, which opened in 1974, is a unique repository of material relating to children's and young adult literature. It contains original artwork from children's books, manuscripts, photographs of children's illustrators and authors, first edition books, and other relevant material. The collection spans work from the late nineteenth century onwards.
From 1978, Dromkeen was maintained and financially supported by Scholastic Australia. In 2012, the decision was made to move the collection to the State Library of Victoria where it will be preserved and continue to be used for exhibitions.
