Green studies Brennan's marginalia to uncover some of the sources for his thought. The marginalia in Brennan's copies of the works of John Keats, Walter Pater and Edward Maitland enable many connections to be made with Brennan's writing. This, Green argues, demonstrates that Brennan's reading demands closer study to uncover the many sources of his thinking.
