David Gilbey migrated to Australia from England while still a boy. He graduated from the University of Sydney, New South Wales and has been Senior Lecturer in Literature at Charles Sturt University and guest professor at Miyagi Gakuin Women's College, Japan. Gilbey was the founding president of Wagga Wagga Writers Writers and has been honorary secretary of the Association for the Study of Australian Literature.
