'It's tough in the eighties. Nothing's for sure. No promises. If you're going to come through you've got to have friends. Fatima, Saret, Angie. And Alex. They're growing up fast. And growing up can hurt when you're in between. This was it! The children crossed and Saret could see Slater put the car in gear, ready to take off again. Saret quickly pulled down the door handle and threw his weight against the door. He jumped clear of the car. He had a split second vision of Finch lunging after him, face puffy with exertion, and then the attache-case and papers, flying all over the back seat of the car.'Quick, Pete. Get him.' Saret is the second book based on the television mini-series In Between produced by Trout Films and Open Channel for SBS TV.' (Source: Bookseller's website)

A four-part television mini-series depicting life in Australia for four adolescents from different backgrounds.

According to Moran, in his Guide to Australian TV Series, 'In Between was a realistic and absorbing attempt to depict Australia as a multicultural country. The four central figures were "in between" two cultures. In Between also highlighted the fact that many of ethnic background--like Fatima, Saret and Alex--were also very much at the lower end of the socioeconomic scale'.
