This novella contains references to all four characters (Angie, Alex, Saret and Fatima) from the televison series on which it is based but is centred around the life of Fatima, a Turkish-Australian girl living in a highrise apartment in Melbourne. Fatima struggles against the restrictions imposed on girls in the Turkish community and wants to be able to gain an education. (Source: From the book)

A four-part television mini-series depicting life in Australia for four adolescents from different backgrounds.

According to Moran, in his Guide to Australian TV Series, 'In Between was a realistic and absorbing attempt to depict Australia as a multicultural country. The four central figures were "in between" two cultures. In Between also highlighted the fact that many of ethnic background--like Fatima, Saret and Alex--were also very much at the lower end of the socioeconomic scale'.
