'[A]bout a young girl called Mizpah, whose mother is English and father Japanese. She speaks fluent English and falls in love with a young American lieutenant, and eventually helps him by leaking military secrets stolen from her father. However, when she discovers that the lieutenant is betrothed to his English cousin, she regards this bond as more sacred and important than their verbal promise and refuses to go to the United States with him...The story ends with the disclosure of her conspiracy, and she is arrested, poosibly to be executed, as a traitor to her country.' - Kato, Megumi in Representations of Japan...
