'In the early Seventies Paul Wilson took a group of musicians to Central Western Queensland for the "Ball Season". For more than a year this group criss-crossed the region, playing in half horse towns where life exists only during balls and picnic race meetings, where eccentricity is the norm, where extremes of violence and chauvinism are taken for granted , and where a band could collect massive amounts of money by "taking around the hat" after midnight.
