BiographyHistory

Writer, editor and researcher in the fields of contemporary art and music.

Cynthia Troup holds a BA (Hons) in history and art history from the University of Melbourne, pursued further study in Italian Renaissance history at Monash University, and studied in Florence and Rome on an Australian Foundation for Studies in Italy Award in 1995.

In 1994, Troup was a founding member of Aphids, an artist-led, project-driven and not-for-profit group based in Melbourne. She began writing for performance as part of the Aphids' production Maps (2000). She has produced a wide range of performance and site-specific creative works since then.

As an academic who has taught in the Faculty of Art and Design and the School of Historical Studies at Monash, she has published widely, including articles in Italian Studies and essays on contemporary art and music. In 2017, she lectured in the Master of Arts (Writing and Literature) course at Deakin University.
