Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Jeremy G. Byrne co-founded the independent small press Eidolon Publications with Jonathan Strahan in 1990. It initially published Eidolon: The Journal of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy (1990-2000) before branching out into the book market in 1996. In addition to co-editing the Eidolon journal Byrne co-edited a number of anthologies with Strahan, including The Year's Best Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy (1996), The Year's Best Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy, Volume 2 (1997) and Eidolon 1 (2006).
As an author Byrne published the short fiction story Tizzy's Tail (1990) and a number of essays for Eidolon, including 'Big Blue Was Watching You' (1990), 'Now is the Time' (1991), 'Now is the Time (Again)' (1991), 'Editorial' (Spring 1991), 'From the Lands Beyond the Hill' (1992), 'Directions' (1992, with Jonathan Strahan), 'Awards, Holidays and Gender Issues' (1993), 'Ch-ch-ch-changes' (1999) and 'Editorial: Not Just Another Decade' (2000). His co-interview with author Greg Egan was also published in Eidolon (1994, with Jonathan Strahan).
