Former Canberra-based writer, and now resident of Queanbeyan (New South Wales), Donna Maree Hanson has been writing in the fantasy, science fiction, horror, paranormal romance and romance genres since 2000. To date she has had more than 20 short stories published in various small press and ezines, while also contributing a number of reviews and essays. Among the publications her works have appeared in are the Canberra Speculative Fiction Guild (CSFG) anthologies Machinations (2002), Elsewhere (2003), Gastronomicon (2005), Masques (2009), along with Redsine Ten (2002), Belong (2010), Scary Kisses (2010), Deep Space Terror (2010), Anywhere But Earth (2011), More Scary Kisses (2011), Dead Red Heart (2011). She has also has stories published in Antipodean SF, Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine, Potato Monkey and the Canberra Times. In January 2013, her first longer work, Rayessa and the Space Pirates, was published by Escape Publishing.

In addition to her writing, Hanson was the inaugural president of the CSFG, and has since overseen the publication of several of its anthologies, notably Encounters (2004, with Maxine McArthur). She also edited and contributed the introduction to Kaaron Warren's collection The Grinding House (2007) and in 2011 she read submissions for Angry Robot Books.

Hanson's industrial activities have included serving as Treasurer of the ACT Writers Centre, chairing Conflux (the 2004 Natcon convention) and Conflux 2 (the smaller Canberra-based science fiction convention, 2005). In 2010 Hanson was involved in the early stages of organising the World Science Fiction Convention (Aussiecon 4) in Melbourne and in 2013 was co-chair of Conflux 9, the 52 Australian National Science Fiction Convention.
