Rima Tamou was selected as part of a group in 2007 to participate in a project by the Australian Film Commission (AFC) that was designed to nurture and assist the talents of upcoming Indigenous filmakers. The project was designed to give the chosen individuals the opportunity to develop their first feature film with the assistance of respected directors and producers such as Phillip Noyce, Zachary Skiar and Ray Lawrence.
In his biography for the Native Slam Festival, Rima Tamou notes that he was born in Australia, and that his mother was a Bulgunwarra woman and his father is an Ngā Ruahine man.
