BiographyHistory

MacGibbon and Kee was founded in 1949 by James MacGibbon, Robert Kee, Janetta Kee and Margaret MacGibbon as a low-volume publisher of general non-fiction, fiction, and science and medical books. It was the first publisher of the Australian novels and some other work of Colin MacInnes.

The company was acquired by the Granada Group in 1968, and in 1972 its imprint merged with that of Hart-Davis to form Hart-Davis, MacGibbon Ltd. William Collins bought Granada's publishing interests around 1983.
