BiographyHistory

Founded by Canadian filmmakers Paul Barron and Ann Macbeth in 1981, Barron Films was a Perth-based film and television production company that operated until 1994, when it was re-branded as Barron Entertainment Ltd (BEL). The company also operated a subsidiary operation, Barron Television Ltd (BTL).

After finding itself in serious financial difficulties in 2001, BEL negotiated the sale of its film and television copyright to the Melbourne-based Arts Film Rights Pty Ltd. The following year, however, the company was forced into liquidation and was delisted in 2003.

Among the company's feature film credits are Bush Christmas (1983), Windrider (1986), Father (1990), and Black Fellas (1993). BEL is also well-known for its telemovie productions, notably the Singapore Sling trilogy of films: the first aired in 1993 and the second and third, Singapore Sling (II) and The Road to Mandalay, both aired in 1995.

Barron Films/Barron Entertainment has also produced such television series as Haydaze (1990), Ship to Shore (1993-94), Natural Justice (1995), Sweat (1996), Chuck Finn (1999-2000), and Wild Kat (2001).
