Film and television producer, dramatist, theatre critic.
Paul Douglas Barron immigrated to Australia in his early twenties and initially pursued a career as a dramatist and theatre critic. His play Circles was produced in 1974 at the Playhouse, Canberra, by Alpha Theatre. Around the same period, he also contributed reviews to the Canberra Times.
By the early 1980s, Barron was director of the Perth Institute of Film and Television (PIFT). In 1981, he set up Barron Films, the first film and television-drama production house to specialise in producing films in Western Australia. Since its first production, the 1983 feature film Bush Christmas, the company (also known as Barron Entertainment) has produced more than thirty feature films, telemovies, and television series.
As a producer, Barron has overseen most of his company's productions. Since the early 2000s, he has also been responsible for creating and/or producing several productions for Great Western Entertainment, notably Parallax (2004), Streetsmartz (2005), Wormwood (2007), and Stormworld (2009).
