BiographyHistory

Bambis Rakis was born and educated in Egypt although being of Cypriot background. He attended the Averofion High School and went to Cyprus in 1953 where he commenced a career in journalism and radio in 1955. From 1960 to 1972 he worked for the radio network of Cyprus. In July 1975 Rakis migrated to Australia with his family and settled in Sydney. In Australia he worked with the newspaper Panellenios Kerykas between 1975 and 1981, and then from 1981 to 1982 with the newspaper To Ethniko Vema. Since1982 he has worked in the news section of the Greek program on Radio 2EA, Sydney. Rakis has been writing short stories since 1955; they have been published in the newspapers Panellinios Kirykas and Nea Patrida, and the journals Antipodes, Ellinis and Tachydromos.
