BiographyHistory

Born in Ben Tre in 1942, Phùng Nhân was conscripted into the Army of the Republic of Vietnam in 1965. He was wounded in 1968 and discharged in 1970. He studied nursing and became a qualified nurse for the period of 1971-85. He escaped from Vietnam by boat and arrived in Australia, where he resumed and expanded his interest in literature. Since 1990, Phùng Nhân has published 6 novels, 4 selected works of short stories and contributed hundreds of articles, short stories and poems to Vietnamese magazines and newspapers in the Vietnamese Diaspora. His writing conveys sentiments and customs of Vietnamese people in the country side of Mekong Delta. Phùng Nhân has been a member of the Vietnamese Pen Club. In 1991 and 1992, he was a winner of the 'Lang Van' Cultural and Artistic Prize.
