Zdzisław Marek was born in Poland in 1923 and migrated to Australia from Germany in 1949. As a poet and essayist he contributed to Polish-language periodicals in Europe and Australia. His poetry was published in journals including 'Student Polski na Obczyźnie' [The Polish Student in Exile] (Munich), 'Kronika' [The Chronicle] (Frankfurt), 'Przegląd Literacki' [Literary Review] (Frankfurt), 'Kultura' (Paris), 'Kontynenty' (London) and 'Tygodnik Polski' [Polish Weekly] (Melbourne), and four volumes were brought out by the London-based Polish publisher Oficyna Poetów i Malarzy. He studied medicine at Munich University after World War II, and later completed his studies at the University of Sydney. He lived for many years in Tasmania, before moving to Sydney. He was a member of the Związek Pisarzy Polskich na Obczyźnie (Association of Expatriate Polish Writers).
