One cold, wet night, their home is invaded by a family of green frogs. The mouse family departs, but has trouble finding new lodgings because all of the usual mouse haunts are filled with refugees from the bombed towns in the area. They finally make their home in a cosy village church, where baby Angel is born.

She goes to the country, and quickly meets up with a field mouse called Pip, and a ‘conceited wretch’ of a circus mouse called Pedro, both of whom court her with chocolates and flowers. Who will win Pepita’s heart?
