BiographyHistory

Manchester University Press was established in 1904 to publish non-commercial scholarly work by members of the university. The press was managed by a publications committee and subsidised by the university.

The press has developed into a publisher of works of learning by scholars from all over the world. It is recognised as a leading publisher of works of history and English language and literature, and from 1973 has published the journal Critical Quarterly.
