BiographyHistory

The Dublin publishing, bookselling and printing firm McGlashan and Gill changed its name to M. H. Gill and Son in 1876 when Henry Joseph Gill became a partner in his father's company. The firm published a range of Irish nationalist and Catholic literature, and school texts. The company ceased printing in 1965, and in 1968 the publishing division formed a partnership with Macmillan, becoming Gill & Macmillan, a leading Irish publisher of school books, university texts, and general fiction and non-fiction. M. H. Gill and Son continued as a bookseller until 1979.
