Author, playwright, poet, essayist, short-story writer.
R.N.Callander (Ron Callander) is a veteran Australian writer, born in 1933 and, as at 2014, resident in Queensland.
His work has been published by KG Murray magazines, the Czech journal Hlas Domova, Overland, Quadrant, Australian Short Stories, the Age, the Newcastle Morning Herald, the Grenfell Record, Script Screen and Art, Afloat, and other publications. His work has also been anthologised in Echoes Of Henry Lawson (Ansay, 1981), Enter (HQ/Flamingo, 1997), and A Picture Through Words (DVA, 2004). His books include MacArthur’s Pyjamas (Seaview Press, 2007) and One Beat Of A Butterfly’s Heart (30 Degrees South, 2014).
His work for television includes scripts for The Mavis Bramston Show and Homicide, as well as The Third Witness for the Wednesday Theatre.
His awards include the Henry Lawson Prose Award (1961) and the Northern Territory Literary Award (1996).
His involvement with professional associations includes the Australian Radio Television and Screen Writers’ Guild, the Fellowship of Australian Writers (Victoria), and the Eltham Arts Council (Victoria), and he has also taught at RMIT.
