Bob Cugley took a job at the Speciality Press in Little Collins Street at the age of fourteen. In 1938 he bought a share in the National Press, in Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, and undertook responsiblity for publishing as well as printing. From 1961 he was sole owner of the Press, and published 'scores of Australian authors who otherwise may not have progressed beyond the typewriter.'
