BiographyHistory

Casey Nicholls a writer, teacher and performance maker with and for an juvenile audience. She had worked for the Western Edge Youth Arts, and as an Acting Artistic Director, Writer for Beagle Bay Chronicles in the Kimberley, and, Dramaturg on Fate with Flemington Theatre Group, a collective of young African Australians. Her first play, Industrial Park was produced by Urban Myth Theatre of Youth in 2009, and she wrote Pony in 2010 when she was a member of the St Martin's Emerging Writers' Studio. Casey had also worked as an educational dramaturg on a number of projects for Real TV, and also was a co-founder of Untreated, whose first work was a site-specific exploration of homelessness across cultures called Underpass was presented in 2011 at the Big West Festival. Love Boy 2013 single work drama young adult 'LeRoi has lost his mother. He is placed in a state care facility while his kinship placement is arranged. Here he meets Stevie, a troubled ward with not much to lose. Together, they are at the bottom and the only way up is down. Australian Aboriginal youth suicide rates are among the highest in the world. It is said that there is not enough hope to protect indigenous young people against ending their own lives.
