BiographyHistory

Boake was the son of an Irish photographer who grew up in Sydney (and for two years in Noumea). After leaving school in 1886, he became a surveyor's field assistant at Adaminaby. He remained in the bush and in 1888 became a station hand at 'Mullah' near Trangie. He went droving in Queensland and New South Wales before returning to surveying work. At the age of twenty six, Boake hung himself. He had been suffering severe depression for a number of months. He was the uncle of Capel Boake, (q.v.)
