BiographyHistory

Caterina Mastroianni arrived in Australia at the age of 2 and grew up in Wollongong. She has also lived in Rome and Istanbul but Sydney is now (2011) her home. After completing her Graduate Diploma in TESOL she worked in adult education. She interacts with people from various cultural backgrounds on a daily basis in her work as well as in her personal, social and poetic life. Caterina Mastroianni received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wollongong and a Diploma of Education from the University of New South Wales where she also enrolled for a Master of Arts degree (English).

  • Caterina Mastroianni read five of her poems at the 1998 Sydney Writer's Festival: 'Yesterday it was Wog, Today'; 'Language Sometimes Labours'; 'Living Unconsciously'; 'The New Cliché' and, 'Being More'. The festival was part ot the Authentic Ethnic program organised by Barry Gamba, Ethnic Communities Council of New South Wales.

  • In 2006, Mastroianni's poem, 'Reflections on Racism' was Highly Commended for the Triumphant International and STARTTS 2006 National Refugee Week.
