BiographyHistory

Mary Gaudron is a barrister and former judge of the High Court of Australia. She studied law at the University of Sydney, where she graduated with first-class honours and received the University's medal for Law. She was admitted to the bar in 1968 and subsequently became one of the first women to practice as a barrister in New South Wales. In 1981 she was appointed New South Wales Solicitor-General and in 1987 was appointed to the High Court of Australia. She resigned from the High Court in February 2003 and later that year joined the International Labour Organisation in Geneva.
