'A collection of poetry and wood carvings that burns blindingly bright.

'The island of Borneo was once the most heavily wooded in the world, and its people have always carved wood beautifully. In KILLERNOVA, grappling with his heritage, Omar Musa remixes this ancient art form with fiery poetry forged in the stars.
With equal parts swagger, humour and vulnerability, Musa charts a journey through the colonial history of South-East Asia, environmental destruction, oceans, bushfires, race in Australia, the isolation and addiction of COVID lockdown, family, lost love and, ultimately, recovery.

'Relentlessly on beat, visually captivating and deceptively intimate, this is a collection of words and art that burns blindingly bright.' (Publication summary)

1 5 y separately published work icon Millefiori Omar Musa , Melbourne : Penguin Random House Australia , 2017 12241594 2017 selected work poetry

'A collection of love poems and fierce raps, Millefiori is Omar Musa's third book of poetry. Both dream-like and gritty, it also includes gorgeous illustrations and draft poems from Musa's notebook. Heartbreak, cocaine, colonial violence, memory and cave paintings: this is a world full of unbearable beauty and brutality.'

— Appears in: Meanjin , December vol. 74 no. 4 2015; (p. 81-87)
'Maria slid the toilet window across and pressed her aquiline nose to the flyscreen, searching the car park below uneasily. Nothing but the gleam-wobbling macadam and a few cars. 'Bickie!' she called in a sing-song voice. 'Bikkiiiie!' Usually, as soon as she called, she would see the cat's stripy form appear from behind a bin or emerge from a bush and come loping over the asphalt from afar. Then, after half a minute, he would burst into the flat, both needy and haughty, waving his tail with patrician entitlement. Like a dog, the way she could call and he would come. But not this time...' (Abstract)
