From 7 November 1868, Henry Bohm served as editor until his death on 1 September 1872. Employed by Bohm's widow, James Henderson only remained as editor for 9 months until he too died. His widow's brother, Charles E. Carkeet, married Mrs Bohm two months later in August 1874. Mrs Carkeet continued to manage the Express while her new husband worked as editor. On 1 September 1875 the paper was purchased by A. J. Boyd, who sold it on to Thomas Williams on 22 April 1876. In August 1876 it merged with The Townsville Times to become The Townsville Herald.
