BiographyHistory

John Young Walker emigrated from Scotland to Australia. In 1876 he served as editor of The Cleveland Bay Express, before launching The Northern Standard on 20 July 1877. Walker formed a company to purchase The Townsville Argus, which was incorporated into the Standard in September 1877. He also worked as a school teacher, and wrote a history of the Bundaberg area.
