Born in the northern Greek region of Macedonia and adopted by an Australian family as a baby, Peter Papathanasiou studied mathematics and science at university, completing a PhD in biomedical science. Following a period at Stanford University, Papathanasiou attended a novel-writing course at The New School, New York.
Papathanasiou is a prolific short story writer, and also holds an MA in Creative Writing from University of London. His short stories have been shortlisted for, and have won, several Australian regional literary competitions.
In 2018, he was one of the recipients of the Hachette Manuscript Development Program.
