Jean Calder trained as a doctor and has worked extensively with children with profound disabilities. She worked in various Middle Eastern countries during the 1980s and 1990s.
In 2012 Dr Jean Calder was named Alumnus of the Year, The University of Queensland for her work as a specialist in assisting disabled children in Lebanon, Egypt and more recently in the Gaza Strip.
