BiographyHistory

John Bennett completed an honours degree in philosophy and sociology in England before arriving in Australia in the late 1970s. He settled in Sydney and after further travel, worked as a NSW National Parks policy officer. John was winner of the Newcastle Poetry Prize in 1989 and in 2008 won the Inaugural David Tribe Poetry Prize. During 2007 John Bennett was Sydney Harbour Artist of the Year and was Poet-in-Residence at the Macleay Museum. In 2004 He complete at PhD at the University of Wollongong. John has twice been President of the Poets Union.
