Sweatshop is 'a literacy movement based in Western Sydney that is devoted to empowering culturally and linguistically diverse communities through reading, writing and critical thinking.'

Sweatshop has, over its history, operated in partnership with WestWords: Western Sydney’s Literature Development Organisation for Young People and the Western Sydney University Writing and Society Research Centre. As of 2025, it is supported by PYT (Powerhouse Youth Theatre) and the Australian Government through Creative Australia, and works in partnership with Campbelltown City Council, Sydney Writers’ Festival, Affirm Press, Red Room Poetry, Diversity Arts Australia and NewSouth Books.

In January 2025, Sweatshop announced Fresh Off the Books: The Pasifika Australian Literary Initiative, said to be Australia's first literary program for Pasifika-Australian writers. The project will include a year-long scholarship for the writers and cilminate in an anthology of Pasifika writing.
