A modernised adaptation of Fitzgerald's Jazz Age novel, with the action shifted to Melbourne, The Beautiful and Damned follows Anthony Patch and his wife Gloria Gilbert; ostensibly writing a book on World War II heroes while receiving a weekly stipend from his wealthy grandfather, Anthony is, in reality, living as hedonistic lifestyle as possible while waiting to inherit his grandfather's wealth. His life begins to unravel when his grandfather cuts him off financially.
