BiographyHistory

Charles Scribner's Sons begins with the publishing partnership of Isaac Baker and Charles Scribner in 1846. Following the deaths of various partners, the business name was changed to Charles Scribner's Sons in 1877. In 1999 Charles Scribner's Sons joined Thomson Gale. The trade adult imprints of Macmillan, Charles Scribner's Sons, and Atheneum are blended under the single name of Scribner, which includes Eleanor Rawson and Lisa Drew Books British writer of Australian stories E. W. Hornung's letters are quoted in Roger Burlingame's biography of the company (Of Making Many Books 1946; 26).
