'Justice to the Dead' writes of the final act of compassion exercised by Dr William Bland prior to his death – despite his own ill health, he went to the home of 'a poor woman in her confinement'. The letter concludes: 'After leaving the house of his patient, a one pound note was found on the table of the sick and needy woman.'
