This course examines the literary production of a range of twentieth century women writers in France, Britain, the United States, New Zealand, Vietnam and Australia. Perspectives within which this writing will be placed include literary and political aspects of feminist theory; the intersection of questions of gender, class, race and ethnicity, and sexualities; the specific situation of women writers at particular historical periods and in particular places; women and colonisation; feminine articulations of "madness"; sexual politics.
