  • Although some library catalogues assert a start date of either 1872 or 1874 for The Muswellbrook Chronicle, and the newspaper's own website concurs with the 1874 date, the correct date seems likely to be 1888. Rod Kirkpatrick states that the Chronicle is not listed in any newspaper directories prior to 1888 and that Ken Sanz has viewed the 1888 issue dated vol. 1 no.1.

    As of October 2013, the earliest reference to the Chronicle in a digitised newspaper (via Trove) is also 1888.
