Asylum Seeker Narratives: A Resource for Researchers lists works that include or examine first-person accounts of people seeking asylum in Australia. These resources, presented as a series of Research Trails, are open to anyone with an interest in reading or hearing these stories.
The main aim of this resource is to provide access to first-person asylum seeker stories. The secondary aim is to acknowledge the importance of analysing how these stories figure in broader literary and cultural contexts.
The majority of resources comprise lists of organisations, manuscript collections, scholarly works, and creative works based on the individual stories of asylum seekers.
Part of the Resourceful Reading project under the direction of Professor Gillian Whitlock, Asylum Seeker Narratives presents stories told in asylum seekers’ own words.
Acknowledgement of asylum seekers’ personal identities, and their individual stories, is a key step towards a fuller understanding of the asylum seeker events and policies prevalent in our political and social discourse.
