'In the late 1960s, a talented young pianist named David Helfgott was introduced to Katharine Susannah Prichard, the 81-year-old famous author and 'Red Witch of Greenmount'. Through a series of Friday night visits, an unlikely friendship formed in which Katharine would heal and David would grow.
'This unique one-act play commemorates the incredible and tragic life of Katharine Susannah Prichard, and her extraordinary friendship with David Helfgott. It will be staged at her actual heritage-listed home in Greenmount.' (Production summary)
Commissioned by the Katharine Susannah Prichard Foundation Inc for the 50th anniversary of her passing in October 1969, as part of the 'Colours of Katharine' commemoration event. The production was supported by the Western Australian government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, and the Shire of Mundaring.
