History

Named after the award-winning Tasmanian author of children’s books, the Nan Chauncy Award was created by the Children's Book Council of Australia to honour people who, like Nan Chauncy, have made an outstanding contribution to the field of Australian children's literature.

The Nan Chauncy Award consists of two parts:

— A citation written by the judges

— A commemorative plaque, generally made of Tasmanian timber.

From 1983 to 1998 the Award was presented every five years. From 1999, it has been given biennially.
