This short story competition was offered by Westerly magazine. The judges for this competition were David Bradley University of Western Australia the English Department, John K. Ewers of the Fellowship of Australian Writers, and the Editors of Westerly, Hal Nicholson and Peter Abotomey, who acted together as a single unit.
There were two sections to the competition; Section I, which was open to any writer, for the awards £60, £10 and £10; and two stories for the £15 and £5 awards under Section II, which was restricted to University students under twenty-five. (Source : Westerly, Issue 1, 1960 p. 3)
